Committees
We have a number of different committees that at various times of the year are working on special projects. We are always looking for fresh faces and new volunteers to assist in these efforts.
Register of
Historic Places
Shall coordinate efforts to identify, evaluate and preserve historic and archeological resources of South Amboy by working with the National Register of Historic Places to classify local properties including districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects that are significant in local history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture. Responsible for establishing the historic validity for sites proposed for marking, for marking historic sites and establishing historic plaques.
Future Historians
Shall include student members, currently in high school, with a focus to actively recruit and involve classmates and peers in local historic awareness and appreciation as well as act as liaison between their school history project and the society.
Heritage
Shall oversee genealogy and family history projects and interests, provide guideance and/or information on inquiries on local family history research, establish and maintain a family history library of collected documents and reference materials for South Amboy lineage.
Public Relations
Shall oversee the general communication efforts of the society to the community such as membership drives to expand membership, fund raising and grant applications to develop and execute activities that will enable the Society to fund projects and mission objectives.
Historic Preservation
Shall oversee the safekeeping of artifacts, relics, archaeological materials, and papers in connection with the general history of South Amboy, including objects, records of events and activities of the past such as military/veterans, transportation, sports, railroad/trolley, political history, religious, and public safety (police/fire) and local history.
